Canal Lake stretches between Kirkfield and Bolsover, the first lake on the Trent-Severn Waterway east of Lake Simcoe. It sits between the Bolsover lock and the Kirkfield Lift Lock, one of the waterway’s engineering landmarks, and its own claim to history is the “Hole in the Wall” bridge, a 1905 concrete arch designated a National Historic Site in 1988.
At 8.4 kilometres long, the lake is broad but shallow, averaging under 2 metres deep with a maximum of about 4.6 metres, and its water levels are managed as part of the waterway system, drawn down a few feet each winter. Fishing here has historically been strong for largemouth bass, pike, muskellunge, and panfish.
Canal Lake sits within reach of Beaverton, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, and Bobcaygeon, giving buyers several small towns to choose from for day-to-day needs.
